Williamson Road Bridge Construction Begins
Clinton, Miss. (June 8, 2020) N.L. Carson Contractors of Carthage have begun mobilizing equipment to repair the Williamson Road Bridge. Construction is estimated to take approximately 4-6 months, dependant upon weather.
While the project is in the city limits of Clinton, the project is being funded by state-aid funds allocated through Hinds County.
Due to the use of the state-aid funds, Hinds County is serving as project administrator. City officials were responsible for acquisition of easements, acquisition of additional land, and design of the structure.
Many residents that utilize Williamson Road have expressed concerns over the delay of the project’s completion.
At issue, was the nearly yearlong efforts by the City of Clinton to acquire the necessary land within the right of way from an adjacent land owner for the installation of the new bridge.
Easements for additional land were necessary due to requirements that the bridge be widened and elevated to meet current environmental and Department of Transportation standards.
Following an inspection by Federal Highway Administration bridge engineers on January 25, 2019, the City of Clinton was informed that the Williamson Road bridge over Straight Line Fence Creek approximately ¾ of a mile west of Clinton-Tinnin Road in Clinton must be closed to all traffic.
