Parkway Paving Project

8/12/2019 Project Update: Striping will be completed this week. This will complete the $1.1 million project.

8/5/2019 Project Update: Work on the crosswalks will continue this week. Crews will begin working on the crosswalks of the inner lanes on the north and southbound directions. Asphalt is being pured as a base layer and pavers restored to their placement to prevent the rutting of the crosswalks.

Please pay attention to the signage and crosswalks during this time for your safety and the safety of others.

Striping will commence in the next few weeks as well.

7/30/2019 Project Update: Work on the Parkway continues with the repairs to the crosswalks at Fairmont, College, and Main Streets. Over the next two weeks, please anticipate lane closures in both the Northbound and Southbound directions. This week, crews will work on the outside lanes in each direction. Brick pavers will be removed from the crosswalks to level the subsurface and pour asphalt in order to remove and prevent the rutting caused by the crosswalks. Once the outside lanes are repaired, crews will move to the inner lanes. Lane closures will be continuous (24 hours per day) during weekdays until the crosswalk paving is complete.

Please pay attention to the signage and crosswalks during this time for your safety and the safety of others.

Striping will commence in the next few weeks as well.

7/22/2019 Project Update: Parkway paving is complete. Crews will begin cutting signal loops this week at Fairmont Street, College Streetand Cynthia Street. Once loops are cut and installed, signals will be retimed to meet current traffic flow. Once loops are functioning, repairs to the crosswalks at College Street and Main Street will commence.

Please anticipate delays as you travel through the area.

7/10/2019 Project Update: Crews are milling and paving the outside southbound lane today. Milling and paving will continue this week. The contractor is continuing to complete the project within the contractually alloted time.

Additional items that are included in the Clinton Parkway repairs will be conversion of crosswalks from pavers to poured and stamped concrete that will minimize the ruts caused by heavy vehicles compacting the crosswalks.

Please find alternate routes to traverse the city from north to south since traffic delays are anticipated.

Update 7/8/2019:

The milling and paving of the two northbound lanes of the Clinton Parkway began on Monday, July 8. Once the northbound lanes are completed, crews will immediately move to the southbound lanes for milling and paving. Paving and milling is estimated to last for 3-4 weeks, weather dependent.

Public Works officials remind motorists that as the surface is milled it may/will likely cause disruption in the traffic signal loops that “talk” to the signals.  During the 3 – 4 weeks that the Parkway is being milled and asphalt placed the signals will be placed a “timed phasing” which may cause some disruption to travelling along the Parkway.

Public Works will monitor the signals and adjust the timing as needed to try and assist traffic moving along the Parkway as much as possible.

It is recommended that those who normally travel the Parkway use alternate routes over the next 3 – 4 weeks would assist in the speed of Parkway repairs and likely limit frustrations for drivers at intersections.

Additional items that are included in the Clinton Parkway repairs will be conversion of crosswalks from pavers to poured and stamped concrete that will minimize the ruts caused by heavy vehicles compacting the crosswalks.

Clinton Parkway repairs are slated for completion by early September. Residents may stay up to date on paving and infrastructure projects at www.clintonms.org/roadclosures.
