Higher Education Overview

The Greater Jackson Area contains nine institutions of higher learning with a total student population of 40,788. These students are actively engaged in the over 800 academic programs that are offered at the area’s colleges and universities.

Clinton is home to Mississippi College (MC), the oldest college in Mississippi and the second oldest Baptist college in the world. Founded in 1826, the college boasts a distinguished history replete with many outstanding alumni. U.S. News and World Report ranks MC in the "Top 10" category of best values, and the institution has been selected for 13 years to be on the Honor Roll of Character-Building Institutions of the Templeton Foundation.
