Clinton was formally designated into the Main Street Mississippi program on February 15, 2007. Main Street is administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation whose goal is revitalization and economic development in downtown commercial areas. The geographic area will encompass Olde Town and Clinton Boulevard, Clinton's older commercial districts. Main Street Clinton will take a long-term incremental approach to the revitalization process using the national program's four-point approach: design, promotions, organization and economic restructuring to achieve these goals. Clinton is the first community-based Main Street program in the Jackson metro area (Fondren and Belhaven are both urban Main Street programs) and is the 51st Main Street community in Mississippi. A fifteen-member board of directors will govern Clinton's program.
"These are defining times for the city of Clinton and Main Street is poised to have a major impact on the path the community takes. Clinton's rich history combined with Main Street's preservation approach to revitalization will further distinguish Clinton as a destination community," said Tara Lytal, Main Street Manager. "Main Street is more than a definition. It is a spirit of change and possibility; and of hope, a pervasive hope that inspires all who allow it. It encapsulates that feeling many of us get when we walk the brick streets and imagine the possibilities. Main Street is a vehicle that can give wings to our dreams." The 2007 Main Street board of directors are: Trey Baxter, George Ewing, Mark Ford, Tracey Harrison, Karen Godfrey, Tony Greer, Cliff Johnson, Vicki Mascagni, Andi McDaniel, Jacque McLemore, Darrel McQuirter, John Murphy, Debbe Tillman, Ryan Tracy, and Wyatt Waters. 2007 Officers include: Ryan Tracy, President; Vickie Mascagni, Vice President; Trey Baxter, Treasurer; Tracey Harrison, Secretary.
